Last week our recruiter spotlight shone on Santiago, Chile. Today we flash it on Houston … the most populous city in Texas, and the fourth most populous city in the United States after New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Danny Powell – with 20 years recruitment experience right across the USA – from Atlanta, to Chicago, and from Oklahoma to Orange County.

Who knew we had a paintball champion in our midst, fluent in sign language who’d love to have dinner with Thomas Jefferson?

Now everyone can get to know more about Danny Powell …

How long have you been a part of the RecruitLoop community?

I joined RecruitLoop in the fall of 2014.

What were you doing before you met us?

I have been in the recruiting/search business for over 20 years as a billing recruiter and in several senior leadership roles. I have worked at small local firms and large international staffing firms. Most of my focus has been on IT and sales and marketing positions. However, I have successfully recruited for almost every kind of professional role you can imagine!

When working for other companies, I grew tired of a “corporate policy” dictating to me how my customers had to do business when I knew they would be happier with a slightly different recruiting process.

This is not just a slogan, it is a goal that I wake up to every day: “Make hiring candidates from me the best transaction of any kind you have ever experienced”.

What is the best part, for you, of being a ‘Looper‘?

I enjoy working on a project basis for my clients. I also enjoy introducing my past clients to this new concept since the RecruitLoop platform is a real game changer.

The time that hiring managers and HR staff put into recruiting is insane. RecruitLoop reduces that time by allowing those involved in the hiring process to spend their time with only the most qualified candidates.

Also, the video interviews allow hiring managers to compare candidates’ answers and base hiring decisions on objective fact rather than subjective. The videos are especially helpful for companies looking for sales people or individuals that need to be quick thinking and comfortable in front of a client.

What RecruitLoop feature do you think is the most awesome?

I am sure the most popular feature is the video interview technology. However, for me it is the ability to log and track the hourly rate I charge for my services.

By charging an hourly rate, my clients can buy as much or as little of my time as they need.

No other recruiting service in the world offers the à la carte recruiting services that RecruitLoop offers; nor the platform that I can use.

I recently had a client that just wanted to see resumés of people that were available. They would handle all of the work after I sourced them. In a traditional recruiting relationship, that would have been impossible. In this case, I was able to help a client see the available candidates and I was paid for just that piece of the recruiting process instead of the whole thing.

We both came away from the experience very satisfied.

Why do you believe the RecruitLoop model works so well?

My philosophy has always been to “place the right person in the right position”. RecruitLoop allows me to do that as I feel no pressure from either my client nor my candidate to talk them into something. Over the years I have seen too many fee based firms push hiring managers and candidates into bad business decisions because the recruiter was only focused on getting the deal instead of satisfying the people involved. The RecruitLoop model eliminates the potential conflict of interest that might tempt some recruiters.

Danny Powell RecruitLoop Recruiter in Houston TexasWhat are your passions and interests outside work?

I have been playing Paintball for just over 15 years.

I have played in large national events like America’s version of the Paintball World Cup and have played in scenario style events with over 1000 participants.

While I have slowed down just a bit, my passion for the game has not. I am currently playing on a 5-man tournament team based out of Houston called The Anunnaki. Our goal is to be playing at the World Cup this year in October!

What is something other Loopers may not know about you?

I am completely fluent in sign language having spent several years working for the state of Texas at a State run school for the deaf. It was a great time and I really enjoyed it.

What 5 words would your clients use to describe you?

Funny, loyal, honest, sincere, intelligent (you could say that’s also the description of a good dog!)

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

Make the world transparent.

It is hard for people to be evil when everyone can see what they are doing

If you could have dinner with five famous people (alive or dead) who would they be and why?

The first 3 here are pretty obvious … at least to me.

Mohammed, Jesus and Moses: Three of the world’s largest religions are based on the writings/teachings of these three men. I am always interested in what motivates people and why. My questions to each of them would be as follows:

  • What motivated you to do and say what you did?
  • Do you really believe what you said or was something else going on?
  • Did you think (hope) your words would turn into a religion?
  • What do you think of the current state of your followers?
  • How would you like for your followers to interact with those that don’t believe like you do?

Thomas Jefferson: I would want to hear his opinion on the state of the USA, what his vision for America was and what he would do differently if he was alive and a politician today.

The Guy That Runs Area 51: I’d just love to know what really goes on there.
