In your professional life, the only better thing than finding your dream job is to enjoy some dream time off!

While there are plenty of great jobs and opportunities out there, only a lucky few people have jobs they would happily continue if they didn’t get paid. And even those people look forward to some time off now and then. The rest of us are often left wondering whether we’re working to live, or living to work.

Ensuring your staff take proper vacation time enables them to regroup: to build up their energy, get a new perspective on what they do, and reconnect with their friends and family. What’s more, it’s linked to other forms of leave: failing to take proper vacation impacts negatively on your health, so they only end up taking sick leave anyway.

Playtime keeps their brains fit and pliable, and it’s been suggested that vacation has similar properties to sleep: it allows their system to take care of vital maintenance. They wind up fitter, happier, and more productive.

Startlingly, the average American only takes around half of their allotted vacation time. And of course, we end up feeling guilty for taking sick leave or parenting leave, too. But even if, as the boss, you sometimes worry about being understaffed, those rights are given to us for a reason: vacation and sick leave keep us and our colleagues healthy and productive and improve our quality of life; parenting leave means the chance to offer more love, care, and attention to a baby and partner, which is great for the individuals in question and for the knock-on effect to society.
This new interactive from Resume.io takes a look at how rights to these different types of leave differs depending where in the world you are. Take a look, pay close attention to your employees’ rights – and make sure to look after them if you want an energetic, productive, and happy team.
