When you get into work do you notice that your employees are dragging their feet?

It’s not always possible to take the time to rev up your employees in a daily morning meeting, even if you feel as though a pep-talk might increase productivity and collaboration.

Perhaps the answer is to encourage those you work with to listen to more podcasts.

Most people like to listen to something during their morning commute. If you poll your employees, you’ll likely find that a great deal of them are listening to podcasts on their way in. Some might have a preference for podcasts to do with sports, or history, or true crime, but there is also a genre of podcast that can create self-improvement for your workforce.

Self-improvement podcasts can be very inspirational and give a lift to anyone who listens in.

One very popular podcast is “The Tim Ferris Show” which features interviews with successful individuals giving listeners ideas about entrepreneurship. If you run a start-up, for example, this might be the kind of podcast you’d really like your workforce to engage with.

If you feel morale is generally low, particularly in the mornings, podcasts like “Happier”, can give an emotional boost to listeners. There are also podcasts focused on improved productivity.

Here are a few ways to get your workforce excited about listening to inspiring podcasts:

  • Make it part of a work day: Maybe introduce one that you particularly enjoyed and ask your employees to listen. Then make the lessons learned from the podcast a topic of conversation on the agenda of a team meeting or learning lunch relating what they heard to a specific topic or issue at work.
  • Hold a contest: Ask people to recommend their favorite inspirational podcast and then have a vote to see which was the most popular.
  • Make it a part of your office culture: Just as you might ask your entire workforce to read a book about organizational strategies and discuss it, give them a podcast to listen to with messaging that is in line with your company’s mission.

Introducing these kinds of inspirational messages into the workforce will have an immediate effect, giving your company a better start to the workday and an improved attitude toward not only their work, but life in general.
