With data breaches on the rise and making headlines in the news, you would assume that most companies are starting to double down on their security preparation.
Unfortunately, that’s not quite the case. In a recent study by IBM, 77% of business leaders admitted that they do not have a cybersecurity response plan that’s formally and consistently set in place in their organization. Nearly half of respondents stated that their plan was ad hoc if such a plan existed at all.
The reality is that cyber attacks will continue to target businesses, regardless of their size. While the majority of attacks are perpetrated by outside entities, a significant amount of data breaches are caused by poor employee practices. If the Equifax breach taught us anything, it’s that businesses need to step up their game to protect themselves and their customers.
Cybersecurity preparation is not a set-and-forget type procedure. Your company will need to implement the right security tools, enforce proper practices in employees, and consistently monitor the flow and activity of your information. Essentially, cybersecurity needs to be built into your organization’s day-to-day operations.
